Local probation department head retires

The Tahoe Division manager of the Placer County Probation Department has retired after 20 years with the department.Dan Flores began his career in probation with the Los Angeles County Probation Department in 1972. In 1981, Flores and his wife, Cindy, moved to Lake Tahoe where he took a five-year hiatus from probation work to be the security supervisor at Northstar at Tahoe.In 1986, Flores continued his career in probation with a 20-year commitment to the Placer County Probation Department as a deputy probation officer II. In 1988 he was promoted to senior probation officer and in 1990 he was promoted to manager, the position at which he retired.In his time in the position, Flores helped the office grow from a two-person satellite office to a full service sub-office with a staff of seven.In 1996, Flores was recognized by the California State Juvenile Officers Association for implementation of the First Offender program in Tahoe, which assisted first-time juvenile offenders and their families from entering the legal system.Flores will continue to serve on the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe and act as a mentor or youth advisor for other youth-oriented organizations.
