Local Psyche Dance Team on the go

The local Psyche Hip-Hop dance team has been extremely busy competing and performing the past few months.In February, Psyche earned first place at the Northern California Championship. The team carried that success into the Spot Light Dance Challenge in Carson City, where they received a Diamond Award, the highest award in their division, and a Judges Choice Award.In March the team traveled to Las Vegas for the 2008 Jamz National Dance Championship and took second place.April was filled with several performances, including the Fernley Art Expo, Boys andamp; Girls Club Health Fair, Tune in to Kids Fair and the Multi Cultural Festival of Art at the Truckee Meadows Community College, and Sun Valley Elementary Schools Multi Cultural Night.Psyche competed May 4 at the International Dance Challenge Competition at Chabot College in San Mateo, earning a Gold Award. The team also will be performing at the Sacramento County Fair this month as well as the USA Dance competition in Reno.

For anyone interested in auditioning for Psyche, there will be a mandatory Master Hip-Hop workshop July 19. The new season begins in August with four teams: Mini Psyche (ages 8 and younger), Junior Psyche (14 and younger), Senior Psyche (18 and younger) and Master Psyche (18 and older). No experience is required for mini and junior teams. Senior and Master teams require intermediate to advanced dance skills. For more information call 412-0416.
