Local Sticker helps in storms

Its not quite a free pass, but when Interstate 80 is closed due to a big storm a Local Sticker may will help.Truckee, North Lake Tahoe and Reno residents, employees and property owners are eligible to purchase a Local Sticker that assists westbound access on Interstate 80 between Reno and Truckee-Tahoe during winter storm periods. The $10 sticker also assists Donner Summit residents with access on Old Highway 40 during winter road closures.The sticker program is permitted by the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans and administered by the Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Management Association.As more people choose to commute between Truckee-Tahoe and Reno, the Local Sticker Program becomes a more valuable tool, said Jan Colyer, executive director of the transportation association . The sticker is available at the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce in Truckee, Lake Tahoe Incline Village/Crystal Bay Visitors Center in Incline Village, the North Lake Tahoe Chamber & Visitor Information Center in Tahoe City, AAA Automobile Club in Kings Beach or the TNT-TMA office – the stickers are $10 each. To purchase a sticker, current California or Nevada vehicle registration showing a Truckee, Donner Summit, eastern Placer County, El Dorado County or Washoe County address must be presented. Second homeowners may show a current property tax statement. For information call 530-581-3922.
