The Truckee Optimist Club will be celebrating the 40th year of its Christmas Tree fundraiser beginning this Saturday afternoon (November 26) at the Truckee Crossroads Shopping Center at the Corner of Highway 89 and Deerfield Drive.

All proceeds from the tree lot will go directly to community Youth programs, scholarships and grants.

The Optimist Club will again be providing a variety of premium locally cut Red Firs (silver tips), as well as Noble Fir, Grand Fir, and Nordman fir trees from the club’s growers in Oregon.

“We want to thank in advance the wonderful locals, second home owners, and holiday visitors who have been purchasing trees from us for years,” said Paul Dalbol, Optimist Club President. “Some folks have purchased trees from us for decades. We also want to thank SPI (Sierra Pacific Industries) and USFS (U.S. Forest Service), for granting us permits to cut trees on their lands, and to Save-Mart for allowing the club the use of a portion of their parking lot.”

The Christmas Tree lot will be manned by club members, community volunteers, and by many of the youth who are members of programs that the club supports.

Recipients of the profits raised at the lot (and other Optimist Club fundraisers) include, but are not limited to: High School athletic teams, Band, Drama Club, Project Graduation, cheerleaders, Junior Class Prom, Year Book, special educational programs, major scholarships to graduating Seniors, Career Day; Elementary and Middle School programs including field trips, band, special after school and summer programs, etc.; Sierra High School scholarships; Pop Warner and recreation department football, youth basketball, youth Girls softball, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, AYSO Soccer, youth volleyball, Girls sports day, Buddy Werner Ski program, Truckee Tahoe Swim Team, Tahoe School of Music, Kid Zone Museum, Arts for the Schools, Little League, and more.

The lot hours are from 1-5 p.m. weekdays from November 26 through December 6, then from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. thereafter. Weekend hours will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The lot will remain open until Friday, December 23 or when the trees sell out.
