TRUCKEE, Calif. — The stars do shine brighter in Truckee.

Join Truckee High School Seniors for an “evening with the stars” on the runway for a fashion show extravaganza in support of Project Graduation.

Doors open at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, for a 6 p.m. show at the Community Recreation Center, 8924 Donner Pass Road in Truckee. Arrive early to peruse the silent auction tables chock full of themed baskets including spa, beach, movie, dorm room and more. Sample light appetizers, buy raffle tickets, indulge on sweet desserts, and get ready for runway action.

The Truckee High School Class of 2014 will rip up the runway, showing off a collection Truckee’s finest apparel, accessories and sportswear. Over 20 local stores will be represented including Granite Chief, Mountain Hardware, Cabona’s, Marilyn’s Catwalk, Totally Board, Closet Cowgirl, Sports Exchange, Nox, Dressed, The Niche, Kitsch, Mo Jo & Zoe, Kalifornia Jean Bar, California 89, Bare Bones, Green Rush, Echo Blue, Tahoe Forest Hospice Thrift, Fine N Funky, Unique Boutique, Atlas Sports and Frankie’s Cottage.

The silent auction will also feature donations by Northstar including an Epic Pass (valued at $689), Tahoe Local Pass (valued at $459), Tahoe Value Pass (valued at $409), golf day pass for four (valued at $280) and golf day pass for 2 (valued at $140). The festivities will also include audience give-a-ways and raffle items.

Reserved front row seating tickets are $35 and include 10 raffle tickets (only 24 tickets available).

General seating tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Community Recreation Center, Truckee Physical Therapy and at the door (limited).

It’s a win-win: get a peek at the latest fashion, nibble on an array of eclectic fare, score some major auction items, and help the Truckee High School Senior Project Sober Graduation cause.

Across the nation, more teen deaths occur during graduation weekend than at any other time of year. These deaths are preventable. The community can ensure its teens don’t become part of these national statistics.

Project Graduation provides Truckee graduating seniors with a safe, sober and supervised graduation experience. The event includes an organized all-evening party for the entire class, with entertainment, dinner and events that keep the kids occupied and having fun without drugs, tobacco, or alcohol. During the 23-year history of the program, not one student has been injured or killed. This is an amazing record, with a committed community effort.

There is a cost to putting on the event and several fundraisers are scheduled throughout the school year. The Truckee High School Fashion Show is the grand event — and fun too!
