What do a wheelbarrow, a rope, a picnic cooler and a cross all have in common?

They are just some of the props used by the newly arrived pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Vincent (Vince) Juan, JCL, not only to capture parishioners’ attention, but also to help them to focus on and remember the message of the Sunday Scriptures.

This affable priest officially arrived in Truckee July 1. His formal installation as pastor of Assumption Parish will take place on Friday, Oct. 3, 5:30 p.m. at a Mass presided over by Bishop Myron J. Cotta D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of Sacramento.

A priest since 2003, Rev. Vince’s background is a varied one. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration before entering the seminary and subsequently earning a master’s degree in divinity, a bachelor’s degree in sacred theology and a Canon law degree.

He served as Parochial Vicar at St. Clare Parish, Roseville, and at All Hallows Church, Sacramento. Prior to pursuing his further studies in Canon Law, he served as the Parochial Administrator at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Burney. For the past three years, he served as judge and Adjutant Judicial Vicar at the Marriage Tribunal in the Diocese of Sacramento.

In addition to sharing his engaging homilies, Rev. Vince has shown his deep care for the less privileged in our community through his promotion of the parish’s Food and Resource Support Center in downtown Truckee, his enthusiastic involvement in the Concern for the Poor ministry and his regular visits to sick and homebound members of the church community.

He is encouraging the re-establishment of the local Knights of Columbus, a world-wide fraternal service organization, and he has been hard at work on the church’s exterior physical plant, resealing the parking lot and beautifying the grounds with new mulch and plantings.

Rev. Vince’s spirit of ecumenism was well-expressed by inviting pastors and ministers of other local churches to his Oct. 3 Installation Mass, expressing his “joy and gratitude to Almighty God” on being chosen for his ministry here.

Welcome, Father Vince!
