For many people, change can be scary. I always look at change as being a catalyst for growth. No matter how I am affected, there’s something I can learn by going in a new direction. I look at the upcoming changes to the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza no differently.

I’m sure everyone will look at these changes differently. Some may be angry. Some may be frustrated. Others may even be happy. In any case, I see it as a way to grow and try to deliver something that is more connected to you the reader.

It’s no secret that the Incline Village community wanted change in the news coverage that was getting delivered on a weekly basis. My goal with the Tahoe Tribune Friday edition is to do that very thing. Are we going to nail it right out of the gate? Most likely we will not. However, I am confident in the plan and the strategy to deliver solid content that you want to read.

As I make my way through the Incline Village community I will get a better understanding of what needs to be delivered. Over time, we’ll be able to fine-tune this to cover topics that should be addressed as well as ones that will highlight the local community.

Perhaps the biggest change, one that may also be the hardest, is losing the name of the Bonanza. I realize that this name is something that the Incline Village community has been able to call their own for many years. By removing it, there is sure to be some sentimental attachment and feeling that you are losing something that you have called your own and gaining something that is not.

I cannot change those feelings. But I can say that even though you are losing a brand that you may have an attachment towards, you’ll also be gaining a brand that will aim to deliver more (& better) news that is unique to you. That’s the goal, and the main reason as to why we are making this move.

I have lived in the Sierra Nevada region for 22 years. Of that, nearly 16 of those years have been spent in news media. I feel like I have a really good understanding of the region and the communities that shape it. However, I don’t have the misconception that I know everything about Incline Village and what makes the community tick. My hope is that by meeting with the people that make up the community, I’ll start to understand. That journey of understanding is going to be fun and challenging. I’d like nothing more than for you all to take that journey with me.

Let a new adventure begin.
