Change in 2015: IVGID moving to monthly board meetings

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — IVGID is bucking a years-long trend of twice-monthly regular board meetings in a move trustees say will improve transparency and trustee availability.
At the Jan. 14 board meeting, the first of 2015, the Incline Village General Improvement District board voted to move to monthly meetings.
They will take place the last Wednesday each month at The Chateau, at 955 Fairway Blvd.
According to the district, each meeting will start with a “meet and greet” at 6 p.m. before officially kicking off at 6:30 p.m.
“The meet and greet is an important opportunity for all members of our community to informally chat with their elected officials.” IVGID General Manager Steve Pinkerton said in a statement. “We are very pleased to offer this opportunity.”
While regular board meetings have been cut in half, trustees also will convene once a month, on the first Thursday, for “board retreats,” in which they will discuss topics, but take no action.
Quarterly workshops also are expected to be scheduled, with the first happening in March, although details were unavailable as of Wednesday.
The board’s chair, Jim Smith, said he’s been working hard to make meetings more accessible to all members of the public.
“I am honored to serve as IVGID’s Chairman for this calendar year and want to convey my and the Board of Trustees’ commitment to improve our overall image, financial transparency, customer service and value to the residents and property owners of Incline Village and Crystal Bay,” he said in a statement.
Further, the board is asking staff to make meeting agenda packets available to the public seven days prior to meetings, in an effort for residents to be more informed heading into meetings.
“This goal exceeds the mandate set by the Nevada Revised Statutes and responds to requests from our public at large,” according to a district press release.
According to Nevada law, “written notice of all meetings must be given at least three working days before the meeting.”
BEACH ACCESS TO BE DISCUSSED NEXT WEEK
With the new schedule, the next regular IVGID board meeting isn’t until Wednesday, Feb. 25.
However, the next board retreat is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at The Chateau.
There, trustees will discuss the beaches and access for pass-holders for the Fourth of July, as well as the current status of the boat ramp at Ski Beach, according to the agenda.
Board meetings and worships will continue to be webcast in 2015.
