CHP’s Capt. Malone to retire from Truckee post
On Aug. 29, 2014, Capt. Timothy Malone, Commander of the Truckee CHP office will officially retire, ending an illustrious career as a top Sierra Nevada law enforcement official.
Capt. Malone has been employed for the State of California since 1985 and has worked in either Truckee or South Lake Tahoe for more than 11 years. He has been a valuable member of the community, fostering relationships with municipal leaders and allied agencies alike. His professional appearance, coupled with his witty personality, helped the CHP become recognized as the premier agency in the region.
“Captain Malone has dedicated his life to tirelessly protecting and serving the citizens of our state,” said Sen. Ted Gaines (R-Roseville).
“We appreciate all he has done for the Truckee Tahoe community and wish him the very best as he enjoys his well-deserved retirement.”
Capt. Malone began his career in the Bay Area by working in San Jose, Hollister/Gilroy and Redwood City before relocating his family to Truckee. As fate would dictate, he briefly commuted to Sacramento to serve as an investigator and later as the Commander in the Investigation Unit of the CHP’s Internal Affairs Section.
While there, he orchestrated the analysis of numerous high profile investigations and served as an expert witness in various criminal and personnel matters. Upon his return to the region, he commanded the South Lake Tahoe office before finally returning home to Truckee as the area’s commander and ranking official.
Capt. Malone has been the recipient of awards and accolades. He is the only commander in the state to have his office in Truckee honored as a three-time, consecutive winner of the California Law Enforcement Challenge. More recently, he helped author a detailed operations plan and served as the Incident Commander for the inaugural Lake Tahoe Ironman.
While the list of his career awards and achievements are too long to list, Capt. Malone boasts his crowning accomplishment was raising a family with his wife, Lori, here in beautiful Truckee.
As longtime residents, they watched their two children Tim and Katie grow up and acquire a love for the mountains. Capt. Malone has always been an active outdoorsman and can often be seen riding his mountain bike on dirt roads or snowshoeing in the winter.
The Truckee Tahoe area will be forever in debt to the services he has provided and the countless lives he helped save. Capt. Malone is too humble to accept the title but should be viewed as a treasured resource in the community and a hero of the people.
Please congratulate this dedicated public servant for his well-deserved retirement.
