Common Core Standards info nights start next week in Truckee

Staff report

TAHOE/TRUCKEE – The new Common Core State Standards for education, adopted by California and 44 other states, are already being implemented in Tahoe Truckee Unified School District schools, officials said Thursday.

The Common Core State Standards provide a “consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them,” according to a TTUSD press release.

“The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young scholars need for success in college and careers,” according to the district.

TTUSD is offering information nights, presented by two of TTUSD’s academic coaches, to help parents understand the changes associated with these new standards.

The meetings are as follows:

• Tuesday, Jan. 15, 6:30-8 p.m., Grades K-8, Truckee District Office Board Room

• Thursday, Jan 17, 6:30-8 p.m., Grades K-8, North Tahoe High School Auditorium

• Tuesday, Jan. 22, 6:30-8 p.m., Grades 9-12, Truckee District Office Board Room

• Tuesday, Jan. 29, 6:30-8 p.m., Grades 9-12, North Tahoe High School Auditorium

TTUSD Superintendent Robert Leri will attend both meetings next week. Spanish language translation will be provided. For information, contact Logan Mallonee at lmallonee@ttusd.org or Sydney Dion at sdion@ttusd.org.
