The Village at Squaw Valley just got a little sweeter with Dorinda’s Chocolates slated to open its second location on July 4. An official music, wine and chocolate-filled grand opening celebration for the new 600 square-foot shop will also take place on Aug. 9, 4-6 p.m.

After her passion for handcrafting chocolates was ignited at the age of 12 while learning to make chocolate-covered cherries, Dorinda Vance went on to hone her skills as a chocolatier at Ecole Chocolat, then further her education in Chicago at the Barry Callebaut CHOCOLATE ACADEMY. From there, Vance continued to fine-tune both the delicate art and the science of making mouth-watering chocolates, using only the best chocolates in the world complemented by the freshest ingredients.

At a Lake Tahoe chocolate competition, she won awards for “Most Original Taste” and the coveted “People’s Choice” for her Sea Salt Caramels, and was then encouraged to open her first storefront in Truckee. Her son Dustin then joined the business, which in 2013 moved to a new riverside location in Reno, Nev.

“As Lake Tahoe locals for decades, we are thrilled to be opening our second location in breathtaking Squaw Valley,” said Dorinda’s Chocolates Owner Dorinda Vance. “Our chocolates are the perfect treat while perusing The Village or coming off the hill, and this summer we hope everyone gets to cool off with one of our delicious housemade ice cream sandwiches!”

Dorinda and her team hand-temper and craft each of the 30 to 40 different types of chocolates available, including the award-winning Sea Salt Caramels and a large array of truffles and seasonal specialties. Additional treats include English toffees; peanut brittles; pralines; marshmallows; chocolate-dipped espresso beans, nuts and fruits; and caramels, plus hot chocolate for the cooler Squaw Valley months.

Dorinda’s also specializes in corporate gifts, wedding favors and desserts, custom chocolates for special occasions, and is available for team-building chocolate making events.

The new storefront is located in The Village’s North Face building at 1985 Squaw Valley Road, Suite 26 in Olympic Valley.

The Village at Squaw Valley site will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and later on event dates.
