Election 2016: Submit questions for IVGID candidate forum
The North Lake Tahoe Bonanza and Sierra Nevada College are partnering to host an IVGID Candidate Forum from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, in the Tahoe Environmental Science Center on the college’s campus.
The primary election is set for June 14 in Nevada. Regarding the Incline Village General Improvement District board of trustees, residents will be asked to vote for three of the 10 candidates; the top six vote-getters will then move onto November’s general election.
The deadline for Washoe County residents to register to vote in the Primary Election is Saturday, May 14.
“People can still register or update their information in person at the Washoe County Registrar’s Office until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24,” Washoe County Registrar of Voters Luanne Cutler said this week. “They can also register on the Nevada Secretary of State’s website.”
Visit the Washoe County Registrar of Voters’ website at washoecounty.us/voters to register or to learn more.
To register in person, the Registrar of Voters Office is located at 1001 E. Ninth St., Building A, in Reno. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday (closed on holidays). Call 775-328-3670 to learn more.
As for the May 24 IVGID forum, the session will begin with candidate opening statements, followed by questions for the candidates, as created by Bonanza staff and drawn from the suggestions of area residents, ending with brief closing statements.
All 10 candidates — Matthew Dent, Philip Horan, Steve King, Paul. R. Longshore, Judy Miller, Peter William Morris, Robert J. Olmer, Benecia Price, Steven Thomason and Frank L. Wright — are expected to attend.
Residents are encouraged to submit questions to the Bonanza for consideration to be asked of the candidates at the May 24 forum.
Appropriate questions by email must be sent to Bonanza Editor Kevin MacMillan at firstname.lastname@example.org, with the subject line “IVGID Candidate Forum Question(s).”
You may also drop off written questions at the Bonanza’s office at 925 Tahoe Blvd., Suite 206. The deadline to submit questions in person is 5 p.m. Friday, May 20; by email, the deadline is 5 p.m. Saturday, May 21.
In Nevada, early voting begins on Saturday, May 28.
Regarding IVGID, the three open seats are currently held by Jim Hammerel, Dent and Horan. Hammerel is the lone trustee not to file for reelection.
