Faith Factor | Farewell, Maya Angelou

TAHOE CITY, Calif. — Dear Friend,

Today I learned one of the most inspirational women of our time has made her transition.

Maya Angelou passed on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at the age of 86.

Maya’s early life was filled with hardships and many very painful times; however, Maya overcame and surpassed the struggles in her life through the use of her poetry and spoken word and inspired thousands of people through many years.

In tribute to this amazing woman, I share with you some of her most well-known and powerful quotes. As you read, let yourself feel the impact of what she shares with us, even now.

“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”

The words of Maya are deeply profound, and you can use her words of wisdom as a part of your own spiritual practice. I encourage you to choose one of her quotes each day and make it your focus for the day.

Maya Angelou has indeed left her body and now travels as a free spirit.

She has left us all with something that shall never die: her words, her wisdom, her passion, and her story. We continue to be blessed by the spirit and love of the Divine known as Maya Angelou.

Maya’s last written quote was in her last tweet on May 23, 2014 at 11:43 am. Her final tweet is:

“Listen to yourself and in that quietude you might hear the voice of God.”

Maya, we thank you for all you gave and did in your life’s journey. We truly have been and continue to be blessed by your spirit. May we all be inspired to move through the challenges in our own lives with such ease, grace and beauty as you demonstrated in your own life.

To be inspired and lifted up into a greater awareness of who we truly are as the Divine in human expression is what our Center and our teaching is about.
