The AJ Ghent Band will play steel guitar-inspired jams during a free show at the Crystal Bay Casino Sunday.

“With a molten mixture of driving R&B, soul, funk, and rock n’ roll, the AJ Ghent Band captivates every concert audience,” according to the band’s online biography. “Led by Ghent’s magnetic presence, powerful voice and mind-boggling guitar skill, the band’s live show makes an indelible impression on all who experience it.”

The AJ Ghent Band is Ghent (vocals, guitar), his wife MarLa Ghent (backing vocals), his sister Tiffany Ghent (backing vocals), Seth Watters (bass), Gary Paulo (saxophone, guitar) and Will Groth (drums).

The group released their debut album, “Live at Terminal West,” in April. They opened for Zac Brown Band’s 2013 U.S. tour and have performed with acts such as Gov’t Mule, the Allman Brothers and Robert Cray.

“While Ghent grew up playing lap steel, he has chosen to take the roots of his family’s musical heritage and definitively place it in the present, using custom-made stand-up eight-string lap steel and Telecaster hybrids — rocket ships for his incendiary playing.”AJ Ghent’s biography

“Ghent is a direct descendent of ‘sacred steel’ legends,” according to the bio. “His great uncle Willie Eason was among those who popularized gospel lap steel in the early 1900s, and his father Aubrey Ghent tours the world playing lap steel for the Slide Brothers.
