Yoga for Wellness: The Wisdom of Inner Listening Workshops
Yoga is an effective method of movement that promotes health and vitality. These workshops, slated for July 12 and Aug. 9 (two separate workshops) are designed for participants of all levels to access their inner wisdom and gain a deeper knowledge into yoga as a path to wellness. Your two-hour yoga journey will include gentle pranayama (breathing practices), yoga asana and guided meditation, plus two experienced instructors, Barbara Ricotta, RN, is a licensed acupuncturist, holistic nurse and yoga instructor and Deborah Scarborough, certified yoga therapist and instructor.
Saturdays, 8:30-10:30 a.m., Incline Village Recreation Center (backyard), 980 Incline Way, Incline Village. Cost is $30; $25 with IVGID pass (each workshop); $20 for 55+; and $35 day of retreat drop-in.

Getting Stuck in the Negatives and How to Get Unstuck
UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center presents a public lecture on positive psychology with Dr. Alison Ledgerwood. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 17 at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences, 291 Country Club Drive, Incline Village (on the campus of Sierra Nevada College). Cost: $5 donation suggested.

Ledgerwood answers these questions with findings from behavioral science research.
Recent work suggests that negative thoughts are cognitively “stickier” than positive ones.
The good news? With some effort, it seems we can retrain our brains to focus on the upsides.
Ledgerwood joined the Department of Psychology at UC Davis in 2008, after receiving her PhD in social psychology from New York University.

Five Peaks hiking fitness challenge
The Five Peaks hiking fitness challenge is open to community participants 18-years and older. This program offers moderate to advanced hiking experiences coupled with fun, friends and fitness, Saturdays: July 12, 19 and 26; and Aug. 2 and 9.

Fee: Five Hike Package: $65 or $49 with IVGID Pass or Recreation Center membership.
Four Hike Package: $49 or $38 with IVGID Pass or Recreation Center membership. Individual Hikes: $17 or $13 with IVGID Pass or Recreation Center Membership.
Prizes: Participants who complete three out of five hikes are eligible for the raffle. Prizes include: two $25 gift cards and one massage gift certificate.
A minimum participation of 12 full-package is required to implement this program.

East Coast swing dance class for beginners
Are you ready to jump, jive and wail across the dance floor? Regardless of your taste in music, East Coast Swing is one of the most diverse dances you can learn.
From 40s/50s rock and roll classics, Big Band, Motown, Jazz, to chart toppers of today, East Coast Swing covers a wide variety of music genres. You will learn simple turns and basic moves you can use to create cool Swing Dance combinations on the dance floor tonight! Rebecca will also incorporate essential lead and follow techniques that will make learning easier and give you confidence to relax and have fun on the dance floor. Wednesdays, July 16, 23, 30 and Aug. 6, 7:30-8:45 p.m. (includes instruction and practice time).

Nevada Senior Farmers Market nutrition program
Lake Tahoe Markets is proud to honor the Nevada Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). The SFMNP provides low-income seniors with coupons that can be exchanged for eligible foods at participating Nevada farmers markets. The purpose of this program is to increase the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, herbs and honey and to supplement the nutritional needs of Nevada seniors. Seniors must meet income criteria established by the federal government. To qualify you must be a Nevada resident at least 60-years-old, meet specific income guidelines and sign up at a local Distributing Agency Site. USTA Quick Start youth tennis camps
Ages 6 to 12 years. Five-day tennis camp focuses on stroke production, techniques, match play and tennis rules through specialized activities and drills. The camp also promotes teamwork, sportsmanship and a high emphasis on fun! Classes are taught by certified USPTA instructors. Other activities in the camp may include swimming and games. Daily drop-in upon availability only. Monday through Thursday, one-week sessions through Aug. 21, 1-3:45 p.m.. Fee: $219, with IVGID pass $175. Drop- in $69, with IVGID pass $55.
Paddleboard yoga on Lake Tahoe
Who needs a yoga mat? Climb on a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) and experience yoga in a whole new way. Yoga on a SUP will build endurance, balance, full body strength and coordination. It will heighten your level of awareness, plus tap into your sense of playfulness and humor. So pack your smile along with sunscreen, swim shirt and towel. Paddleboards will be provided to participants and class begins with a brief paddleboard lesson. Participants will paddle along the shoreline starting at Ski Beach, then return to Incline Beach for one hour of yoga on the SUP. Your instructor Jennifer, will customize the class to meet individual levels of experience! Pre-registration required!

55+ fitness and yoga classes
These 50-minute classes, held three times per week, are designed specifically to increase muscle strength, enhance range of motion, realign and define body shape, improve posture, increase blood circulation, improve flexibility and balance, or to specifically instruct yoga movements and positions. Pre-registration is not necessary. Take your IVGID Pass and receive reduced rate. This class is subsidized by Washoe County senior funding.

Tennis Center offering Pickleball
Last summer the Incline Village Tennis Center saw a great demand to bring in pickleball, a fast-growing sport that’s fun for all ages. Pickleball combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. Pickleball was invented in the 1960s as a backyard pastime, but quickly became popular among adults as a game for all ability levels.
Pickleball is played on a modified tennis court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center. It is played with a perforated plastic baseball (similar to a whiffle ball) and wood or composite paddle. It is easy to learn and can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game. In 2013, the Pickleball Association issued a grant to offset the Tennis Center’s pickleball equipment cost, with court no. 8 now lined for pickleball.
Inquire about reservations, scheduled drop-in times, and socials in the Tennis Center Pro Shop. Minimum of four people is required to reserve the court and up to 16 people may play on one court.
Pickleball fees: afternoon/twilight: $5, $3 with IVGID picture pass.
