Hotline created to report Tahoe/Truckee school crimes

Staff report

TAHOE/TRUCKEE — Those who have a school crime to report now have way to do so anonymously.

Tahoe Truckee Unified School District and WeTip have partnered, allowing students, parents and school officials to report crimes such as drug use, vandalism and bullying.

The hotline is answered by live operators 24/7, with bilingual operators on each shift and translator calls provided, if needed.

According to TTUSD, those who call will have a conversation with a professionally trained specialist who will obtain as much information possible to provide law enforcement.

Callers will be advised to not give their name or identify themselves, in order to protect anonymity. WeTip does not record any calls, use CallerID or trace or track any calls.

Founded in 1972, WeTip has received more than 553,900 anonymous tips, ranging from graffiti to murder, that have led to 16,090 arrests, according to TTUSD.

To report a crime to WeTip, call 1-800-78-CRIME or go to
