The holidays are filled with celebration, but for some this time reminds them of the loss of loved ones, especially seniors.

Warm a senior’s heart this holiday season by participating in the Annual Holiday Giving Program.

Here’s how you can support local seniors this holiday season:

Nominate a senior. Anyone can nominate a senior for The Holiday Giving Program! Nomination forms can be obtained at the Recreation Center, Cornerstone Community Church, or the D.W. Reynolds Building, starting Nov. 24. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 5.

Contribute a gift to the Holiday Giving Program. Donors may choose to provide a specific gift item from the wish list of a nominee, donate to the supplemental Raley’s gift card for a holiday meal, or contribute a monetary donation to allow staff to purchase wish list items as directed. General donations received for the program are eligible for tax credits and the appropriate tax ID number will be distributed. Any private donations may remain anonymous, if so desired.

Volunteer your time. Help wrap gifts, write cards, and deliver gifts to the seniors. A warm note or smile can make someone’s day.

All Holiday Giving Program recipients will receive a wrapped gift item from their wish list and a gift card from Raley’s for holiday meal groceries.

Deliveries will be made on or before Dec. 22. Help spread good tidings in the community and join IVGID Senior Programs in the 2014 Holiday Giving Program effort.

“Tip of the week” is a bi-weekly feature running in the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza, in partnership with the Incline Village General Improvement District, providing locals with various tips pertaining to the recreation opportunities and services the district provides. This tip was provided by Jennifer Moore, Incline Village Recreation Supervisor for Senior Programs.
