Jump into high-altitude gardening in Truckee

Special to the Sun

Learn techniques to grow fresh produce in Tahoe’s challenging climate.

This hands-on, three-hour clinic will cover garden tips and tricks local gardener SunMie Won has experimented with over years of trial and error. The clinic will cover best placement, how to cover and protect, irrigation, improving soil and an introduction to cold frame design and construction.

Cold frames are small, do-it-yourself structures that can be placed over planter beds. They protect plants from inclement weather and extend growing seasons using passive solar techniques.

SunMie’s backyard farming and gardening techniques were recently covered in a documentary, “Elevate Tahoe” as well as a story in Moonshine Ink.

Visit SunMie Won’s backyard in Prosser Lakeview, 10563 E. Alder Creek Road on Saturday, Sept. 20, 9 a.m.-noon.

Cost is $20 per person, sign up online at http://www.swprogramming.com/clinic. Take a compass!
