Kids & Horses fundraiser set for Saturday

Kids & Horses Therapeutic Riding program is buying the Minden ranch that has been its location for more than 13 years.

Doug Brimm, chairman of the Incline Village-based nonprofit’s board of directors, says the purchase creates the certainty that the program will continue in the future.

The capital campaign will be kicked off at the 14th annual Kids & Horses fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 7, at The Crystal Bay Club.

The “I BOUGHT THE RANCH … for the kids” campaign provides donors the opportunity to “purchase” square feet of the ranch at $2 per foot.

The minimum donation of $100 entitles the donor to a certificate indicating the assignment of 50 square feet to that donor.

“The pre-sales of the ranch now totals 27.7 percent of the ranch,” Brimm said recently. “We are off to a great start.”

The ranch contains 257,004 square feet as well as a covered arena, a hay barn, stalls, a sensory trail, an outdoor arena with viewing stand and a shop building containing a tack room, office and room for a future classroom for bad weather activities.

The ranch is located 6 miles south of Carson City on Esaw Street in Minden, which intersects with Stephanie Lane.

Established in 1999, the Kids & Horses’ mission is to “provide safe and educational equine-assisted therapeutic riding to children and adults with disabilities.”

It is the only PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International) Premier Accredited Center in northern Nevada. Classes are led by PATH certified instructors.

Saturday’s fundraiser is a Western hoedown with dance music by the 16 Tons band, including Chuck Swing, founder of T’s Mesquite Rotisserie; and Dan Yori of High Sierra Gardens.

Food will be served tapas-style from local restaurants; Brimm’s Catering will be joined by Austin’s, Crosby’s, Tomaato’s, T’s, Wild Alaska Fish Co. and Azzara’s.

Food will also be provided by Big Water Grill; IV Coffee Lab with Whole Tree Bakery; 941 Restaurant; Chuck Wagon of Tahoe; Dave Rice; SYSCO; and US Foods. Beverage tasting will be provided by Incline Spirits.

“Gloria and I opened Austin’s Restaurant in 1991. We are very pleased at the enthusiasm from the local culinary community for Kids & Horses,” Doug Brimm said. “We appreciate their support at the Western hoedown.”

Doors open in the casino courtyard at 4 p.m. A new Kids & Horses video by Felix McLaughlin, owner of VZN Video, will be shown.

Tickets are $40 for adults and $10 for children and can be purchased at http://www.kidsandhorses.org or at IV Coffee Lab, Austin’s Restaurant, Incline Spirits, Serendipity Salon, Bow Incline and T’s.
