Lady Lakers win snowboard season finale at Northstar

The high school snowboarding regular season came to an end last Monday and like their counterparts on skis, the girls from North Tahoe high school put together a dominant year, taking first in five of the six competitions this year.

The Lady Lakers capped off the season at Northstar California Resort, taking first as a team in giant slalom.

Colfax rider Faith Mora took the individual win with a time of 32.57 seconds. North Tahoe’s Nina Burt was second with a time of 33.98. Burt finished the regular season second overall in giant slalom and first overall in slalom.

Nevada Union’s Kyle Hazel finished in third with a time of 35.13. North Tahoe’s Cami Carter (37.45) was sixth, Bailey Haas (37.95) was seventh, and Paige Battaglia (39.59) was 12th to round out the Lakers’ top four skiers. Truckee was led by Liliana Hosefros, who finished 11th with a time of 39.49.

On the boys’ side, Colfax rider Tyler Suddjian was first with a time of 30.24. Truckee’s Caleb Bonneville finished next with a time of 31.53, followed by Ryan Donovan, of Colfax, with a time of 32.11. Cali Vail led the Lakers with a time of 32.26, finishing in fifth place. Truckee’s Zac Kuch was sixth with a time of 32.46 to round out local riders in the top 10.

The Colfax boys won the event. Truckee was second and North Tahoe was fifth.

Athletes will now head to Mount Shasta Resort for the California Nevada Interscholastic Ski and Snowboard Federation State Championships next Monday and Tuesday.
