Letter to the Editor: Canyon Springs will have major impacts
I just finished reading the Sierra Sun article about the DEIR meeting regarding Canyon Springs. It seems incredulous to me that so many safety and traffic issues have not been addressed.
Not even mentioned in this meeting was the traffic from Martis Peak Road should there be a forest fire. We have had some serious threats and fires in the past on Martis Peak and have been fortunate that none turned into real emergencies.
Has anyone considered the impact of a fire up Martis Peak and the absolute traffic jam that would ensue with all of the folks up Martis Peak, and all of the people from the proposed development? Plus all of the Glenshire residents evacuating at the same time, through one exit? This is a tragedy waiting to happen.
The other statement that really struck a nerve is that this will not “significantly impact” our wildlife. This will significantly impact our wildlife as it develops acres of land where our deer are currently migrating through. It will also significantly impact the safety and quality of life, air quality and all of the other things mentioned, for the residents of Glenshire.
We do not need more houses at a time when our market is already glutted with so many for sale, and under water. I hope that all of these issues are addressed and dealt with before any construction is approved by the Town of Truckee.
