Letter to the Editor: Tahoe’s crawfish aren’t the problem; people are at fault
In regard to the need to remove crawdads from the lake as an invasive species, one comment I read said they where contributing to the pollution of the lake. Who came up with that idea?
I was born here and lived here all my life. There was never any problem long ago with the crawdads or lake clarity. It has only been since a large influx of people to the area that the lake clarity has been an issue. I’m not sure how many people will actually believe the crawdads are the problem.
On another point, if the “harmful” crawdads are removed, a large part of the fish’s food will be removed. I guess at that point, sport fisherman will no longer have to worry about hooking the commercial traps since there will be no need for fishing charters or fishing of any kind.
I just caught two very nice rainbows from the lake, and both had crawdads in their stomachs. Crawdads are not a threat to the lake – people are.
And I take offense that it is assumed I and others would be so gullible to believe otherwise.
