Letter to the Editor: Tom McClintock did right thing with Sandy vote
This is in response to the letter by Mr. Booth in the Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, edition of the Sierra Sun.
I’m neither a Republican nor Democrat, but I believe Mr. McClintock was looking out for us and did the right thing. The fact is that the two bills for Hurricane Sandy relief amounted to a little more than $60 million.
If you look at the bills, only a total of about $17 million goes for relief. The rest is pork. The House vote was a mixed one by both parties. Some of those who voted for the relief will benefit from the pork. The people affected by the hurricane do need help, but I don’t want to pay for pork.
As far as FEMA goes, Congress does not release FEMA money. Homeland Security does with the approval of the White House. Rhode Island is already set up for FEMA monies/loans.
