GLENBROOK, Nev. — A Los Angeles man was killed Saturday night in a vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 50 near Lake Tahoe’s East Shore.

Aquiles Molero, 36, died of injuries suffered when the Toyota Corolla he was riding in crossed the highway’s center line into the path of an oncoming Subaru near the community of Glenbrook.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the Toyota was traveling northbound when the driver, Carlos Ortego Gomez, of Mexico, lost control at about 9:40 p.m.

The vehicle rotated as it entered the southbound lanes, and the Subaru, driven by Carson City resident Virgilio Ballesteros, 59, hit the passenger side of the Toyota.

NHP Trooper Duncan Dauber said everyone in the vehicles was wearing seatbelts. Gomez and Ballesteros were not hurt.

The westbound lanes of Highway 50 were shut down for several hours.

The highway was wet and icy at the time of the collision.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information should contact NHP Trooper Karen Garretso at 775-689-4625 or kgarreston@dps.state.nv.us.
