Murder suspect identified after killing himself in Truckee
A man identified as a possible suspect in the shooting death of a Lincoln woman on Wednesday, May 17, was found deceased in a vehicle with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in Truckee.
The man, who was identified as Jerrod Hill, 31, of El Dorado Hills, was spotted behind the wheel of a vehicle headed eastbound on Interstate 80 on Wednesday.
Law enforcement authorities attempted to stop the vehicle, and the driver fled, the Lincoln Police Department said in a statement.
“In an effort to safely stop the vehicle, which was possibly being driven by an armed, dangerous person, spike strips were deployed,” the police department said.
“Some of the vehicle’s tires were disabled, bringing the vehicle to a stop on I-80, west of Hirschdale Road.”
Law enforcement authorities approached the vehicle and found the driver deceased.
The coroner’s division of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Unit released the suspect’s identity on Thursday, May 18.
The woman, who was shot in the upper body, was identified as Renee Sue O’Neal, 35, of Lincoln, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Unit said.
The incident in Truckee tied up traffic on I-80 eastbound with motorists diverted onto State Route 267 south to State Route 28 eastbound to Mount Rose Highway, as authorities investigated the scene.
An unidentified man, who was apparently driving past the alleged crime scene, reported the shooting death of O’Neal at about 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday.
Her body was found in her garage in the 2400 block of Lincoln Airpark Drive, authorities said.
