OBITUARY | EJ Tegnér, March 24, 1959 – May 7, 2014
TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — EJ Tegnér passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 7th at Old Greenwood Golf Course, doing what he loved most. He was only 55. His untimely departure has been a tremendous shock to all of his friends and relatives, was so unanticipated and has left an incredible void in our hearts.
EJ was born March 24, 1959 in Glendale, Calif., where he finished high school and some college. Following his passion for the outdoors brought him to the Tahoe area in 1982 where he, like so many of us, worked different jobs to keep the ski tips pointed downhill! He came here for the winter and stayed for a lifetime. Eventually, he found his niche in real estate, working many years for resorts and developers. In 1995 he met the love of his life, his wife, Marilyn Wood. The rest is history. EJ and Marilyn enjoyed life to the max, and empowered each other to be the very best they could be.
His love for Lake Tahoe was all encompassing, as well as his love for Jesus. He never hesitated to tell anyone about his beliefs, his loves, always engaging in conversations and debates. With his enduring warmth, mischievous smile and gregarious personality, EJ never knew a stranger. He is remembered by a dear friend as “being an incredibly warm and loving person (except on the golf course, where he was ruthless!)”.
EJ was preceded in death by both parents, Edmond and Anita Tegnér, and is survived by his sisters, Anita Lieberthal, Eileen Hanley, and their families: Anita’s husband Dennis, their son Michael and wife Kelly Liberthal and their sons, Merek, Torin and Case Lieberthal. Eileen’s husband Bill Hanley, her son Bryan and his wife Natasha Westerfeld and their children, Jacqueline, Bobby, and Henry Westerfeld. Eileen’s daughters Jennifer Hanley, and Sandy Green and her husband Chris and their children, Payton, Chad and Connor Green.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in the name of EJ Tegnér to EJ’s spiritual mentor InTouch Ministries, P.O. Box 7900, Atlanta, GA 30357.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the West Shore Cafe and Inn at Homewood, Calif., from 3 to 7 p.m.
