TAHOE CITY, Calif. – One person suffered minor injuries in an early Sunday morning fire that destroyed a home near Lake Tahoe’s West Shore, an official said Monday.

Crews with the North Tahoe Fire Protection District responded at about 3:04 a.m. Sunday to the residence at 491 Club Drive in the Talmont area of Tahoe City, said NTFPD Public Information Officer Dave Zaski.

Firefighters found the home engulfed in flames, with its three occupants standing outside. One of the occupants suffered minor injuries and was transported to Tahoe Forest Hospital; the victim was released later Sunday.

The residents were all adults in their 30s and renters of the home, Zaski said.

While no one else was hurt, Zaski said in a follow-up interview Tuesday that two of the home’s dogs were missing as of Tuesday, and a third dog could also be missing.

The fire’s cause is being investigated, Zaski said. No other structures were threatened.

According to North Tahoe Fire, the temperature during the time of the blaze hovered around -7 degrees. Despite the bitter conditions, no firefighters were injured, Zaski said, due in part to the establishment of a rehab unit that provides a warming shelter for fire personnel in extremely cold conditions.

Crews from the Truckee, Northstar and North Lake Tahoe (Incline Village) fire protection districts also assisted in knocking down the flames.
