TRUCKEE, Calif. – A community meeting before the Truckee-Donner Recreation & Park District Board of Directors on the potential sale of the Truckee Veterans Hall Building is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, in the building located at 10214 High St.The district, which bought the building in 1994 from Nevada County for $1, is considering selling it to Tahoe Forest Church, which is looking for a permanent home.In past TDRPD meetings, residents have raised concerns about the public-to-private sale, including a potential increase in traffic on narrow roadways, additional snowmelt runoff in the spring and public access to the Rocking Stone.At the district’s December board meeting, Tahoe Forest Church members addressed some of those concerns by saying the church wouldn’t drastically change the building, and it would be open to the community.According to an email about the March 5 meeting from district General Manager Steve Randall, the TDRPD board of directors also is considering splitting the lot and making the Rocking Stone and grass area into a public park.The lot split would take off approximately $100,000 from the $845,000 recently appraised value of the hall, according to previous reports, on top of an estimated sale reduction of $150,000 to $200,000 for needed parking improvements.The building, which has cost the district approximately $21,000 annually the past three years, was put out for sale in 2012 to public entities for 60 days.
