Public meetings set as Tahoe Basin Area Plan process moves ahead

Staff report

TAHOE CITY, Calif. — Officials are seeking comments to help on a joint environmental document for an area plan and a lodging project proposal in Tahoe City.

The Tahoe Basin Area Plan is a land use document that will guide growth, land development and natural resource management in Placer County's portion of the Lake Tahoe Basin for the next 20 years.

The county's portion of the basin encompasses about 72 square miles and includes the communities of Kings Beach/Brockway, Tahoe City, Carnelian Bay, Dollar Point, Sunnyside, Homewood, Tahoe Vista and Tahoma.

A project proposal to redevelop the Henrikson building in Tahoe City into a boutique hotel is being analyzed to see if it can be built under the new regulations and incentives proposed in the Area Plan, according to the county.

Placer's intent is to explore how new regulations and incentives in the Tahoe Basin Area Plan can help achieve Tahoe Regional Planning Agency environmental thresholds, foster responsible redevelopment and promote revitalization at the lake.

A revised Notice of Preparation was released Wednesday, since "substantial changes" were made to the draft Area Plan along with the addition of the Tahoe City Lodge Pilot Project review.
