Regional gas prices on rise again

TAHOE/TRUCKEE – The conversion to summer-blend gasoline, nationwide refinery issues and a rise in crude oil prices have sent Nevada gas prices to new highs, according to the latest AAA monthly gas survey.

As of Tuesday, the average price in Nevada for regular unleaded gasoline was $3.54 a gallon, an increase of 38 cents from the last AAA gas price release of Jan. 8, 2013, when the average price was $3.16 a gallon.

The highest gas price of the Nevada metro areas tracked by AAA is in Sparks, at $3.74 a gallon, with Reno second at $3.72. Conversely, drivers in North Las Vegas paid an average price of $3.43 as of Tuesday. The highest average price of gasoline in the nation’s metro areas is in Hilo, Hawaii, at $4.26 per gallon.

In Incline Village, the average per-gallon regular price on Thursday was $4.19 at the 76 and Chevron gas stations and $3.99 at 7-Eleven.

On the California side, the average price for gas was higher, hovering between $4.19 and $4.39 per gallon at stations in Kings Beach, Tahoe City and Truckee.

Prices have increased in every state over the last week, according to AAA, with California and the mountain states leading the way with the most significant price jumps: Nevada, 18 cents; Colorado, 15 cents; Arizona, 14 cents, California, 13 cents; and Utah, 12 cents.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.60 as of Tuesday.
