Regional hazmat drill next week at North Tahoe

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — On Thursday, Aug. 15, a regional hazardous materials (hazmat) exercise will take place at Diamond Peak Ski Resort, from 8 a.m. through most of the day.

The drill is organized by the 92nd Civil Support Team from Las Vegas.

Other entities include the Ninth Civil Support Team from Los Angeles; Placer County HAZMAT Team; Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad; Washoe County Consolidated Bomb Squad; and North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District.

According to NLTFPD, there will be a large number of emergency vehicles and military vehicles involved in the drill.

The public is asked to be aware and to exercise caution when approaching the ski resort during the day.

Civil support teams are part of the National Guard; there are 57 throughout the United States.

According to NLTFPD, they provide first response to weapons of mass destruction for the Department of Defense. They have also deployed to natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and the Columbia Shuttle disaster.
