Road closure: Glenshire Drive work to start Wednesday

TRUCKEE, Calif. — Starting Wednesday, Glenshire Drive between Donner Pass Road and Olympic Boulevard will be closed to through traffic from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Friday morning, for the next two to three months, according to town officials.

Olympic Heights residents will be allowed access to their neighborhood via an emergency gate — which will be open overnight — through a signed detour route through the Old Greenwood neighborhood and the Overland Trail interchange with Interstate 80.

Meanwhile, Glenshire/Devonshire residents are encouraged to use Hirschdale Road.

Limited daytime work is possible, said Todd Landry, senior engineer for the town of Truckee. In those cases, Glenshire Drive would remain open with one-way traffic controls, resulting in up to 10-minute delays.

This work to widen the 24-foot wide Glenshire Drive to 32 feet, with two 11-foot-wide travel lanes and two 5-foot shoulder-paved bike lanes, is the continuation of a project that began in summer 2013.

Phase 2 also involves the installation of Best Management Practices, drainage culvert replacement and utility work.

Dependent on a separate project, the Glenshire Drive/Highland Avenue Intersection Safety Project (which may be delayed to next spring), this season could be the final phase, Landry said.

The construction contract is for $2.29 million, with funding coming from Measure A and V, the town’s half-cent sales tax that funds roadway improvements, and AB1600 Traffic Impact Fees.

Work should be completed by mid-October.
