TAHOE CITY, Calif. — Four major road closures are planned for the area when Ironman Lake Tahoe comes to town this September.

On Sept. 22, nearly 3,000 Ironman competitors will swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run 26.2 in the North Shore/Truckee region, and for safety reasons, the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic, an official said Thursday:

Highway 28 westbound, from about Fox Road in Kings Beach to the Highway 267/28 intersection in the morning.

Highway 89 northbound, from the Wye in Tahoe City to Squaw Valley for most of the day.

Highway 267 southbound, from Northstar to Commonwealth Drive in Kings Beach for most of the day.

Truckee downtown corridor, from Bridge Street to Spring Street for most of the day. This is due in part to create a festival-like experience, said Dave Reid, course director for Ironman Lake Tahoe, during a Thursday presentation.

Traffic detours for these closures will be available. Other roads will have traffic impacts managed by California Highway Patrol and traffic control staff.

Residents, businesses, local agencies and municipalities will be provided with a traffic impact document at a later date, Reid said. For specific closure information, they can contact Ironman through the Ironman Lake Tahoe website, at http://www.ironman.com/laketahoe.
