Run, volunteer or cheer at Truckee Running Festival
Join Girls on the Run-Sierras (GOTR-S) for the Truckee Running Festival on Saturday, June 7, 9:30 a.m., Riverview Sports Park on Joerger Drive in Truckee.
The annual fundraiser to support program scholarships is open to the community. Run, volunteer or cheer on the girls.
The Girls on the Run 5K is the culmination of a 10-week after school program that empowers girls to achieve their goals.
Girls on the Run is a positive youth development program that simultaneously teaches life skills and physical training. The goals are to develop and improve competence, unleash confidence through accomplishment, develop strength of character and create positive connections with peers and adults. Trained and supportive volunteer coaches teach girls life skills through interactive lessons, discussions and running games.
The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete the celebratory 5K running event.
GOTR-S provided financial assistance to 47 low income girls and received funding from the Chris Park Memorial Fund, Chintu Gudiya Foundation, Foresight Fund, Lohontan Community Foundation, Northstar California as part of the Vail Resorts ECHO Foundation, Rotary Club of Truckee, Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner, Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe, Stein Family Foundation, Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and the Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation.
GOTR-S offers a spring program in Tahoe at Glenshire and Truckee Elementary Schools; Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe; Incline Elementary and Lake Tahoe School; Bijou Community School and Tahoe Valley.
Festivities will include face-painting, happy hair station, Zumba warm-up dance, and post run barbecue. The event will be fun for the whole family and is also offering a 10K, half marathon, and shorter kids runs (1 mile or less).
