In preparation for International Talk Like A Pirate Day on Sept. 19, the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society will host a “How To Talk Like A Pirate” presentation by Tahoe resident Roger Huff, author of “Captain Bucko’s Nauti-Words Handbook,” “Galley Slave Cookbook,” “Onboard Cruising Guide to Lake Tahoe” and “Tales & Towns Along the Truckee” Sept. 14, 2 p.m. in the Gatekeeper’s Cabin Museum, Tahoe City.

Salty dogs and pollywogs alike will enjoy learning about odd maritime terms and everyday expressions with nautical roots; and will soon sound like Swashbucklers even if they don’t know a halyard from a hawsepipe. If you are curious about the origins of terms like galley, head, over the barrel, and scuttlebutt; or if your pirate vocabulary consists of “Arrrh,” ship out and attend this presentation.
