Sierra Safety Solutions offers business and residential owners simple and effective solutions to keep their customers and employees safe.
Launched by husband-and-wife team David and Amy Harrison, Sierra Safety Solutions assists business owners to avoid potentially dangerous slip-and-fall accidents that can result in injury and liabilities. They achieve this by applying a slip resistant treatment to existing surfaces, which creates an invisible etching on the surface, to help increase traction.
After witnessing his grandmother suffer three falls in a short period of time — at a grocery store, the bank and home, David thought about solutions to minimize potential accidents. "It's traumatic to see people you care about get hurt while running everyday errands. It's a problem that definitely needs to be addressed, for the protection of customers and guests as well as business owners," he said.
Thus the Harrison's business was born.
According to the National Floor Safety Institute, falls account for more than 8 million emergency room visits each year and more than 50 percent of falls are a direct result of problems with floor surfaces. The Occupation Safety and Health Administration notes injuries from slips and falls are the most common work-related injury, with 25,000 occurring every day.

David and Amy brainstormed and researched ways to bring traction without the use of clumsy mats or warning cones. They became certified safety floor technicians through the International Board of Environmental Health and Safety, Inc. and created Sierra Safety Solutions.
Services include a complimentary consultation. A certified floor technician visits the business and provides a free demonstration, comparing the state and safety of the floors before and after the traction is applied. The treatments meet or exceed the OSHA and ADA guidelines for wet static co-efficiency of friction.
Sierra Safety Solutions also works with individual residences to ensure precautions are taken for areas such as tile entry ways, kitchens, bathtubs/showers, outdoor living spaces and pool decks.
David notes any business, particularly those with high-traffic locations such as restaurants, hotels, casinos, airports, grocery stores and schools are also ideal candidates for increased floor traction. Locations with a pool deck or bathtubs, especially health clubs and condominiums, can greatly benefit from their services as well.
His clients include Northstar-at-Tahoe Condominiums, Hard Rock Café Lake Tahoe, Embassy Suites Lake Tahoe, Holiday Inn Express in Sacramento, several McDonald's and more than a dozen Bay Area Applebee's.
Sierra Safety Solutions operates on an appointment-only basis and assists customers on-site as needed. Their service area ranges from the Bay Area through Northern Nevada. For more information or to schedule a consultation call 530-386-7900.
