Soroptimist honor 18 at youth appreciation luncheon

Young men and women, nominated by their teachers, were honored by Soroptimist at Zano's in Truckee as exemplary students.

Soroptimist International of Truckee-Donner awarded 18 students from Truckee and Sierra High Schools on April 17 at its annual Youth Appreciation Luncheon.

The students were nominated by their teachers from all curricular departments.

Characteristics such as diligence; a positive attitude; dependability; regular attendance and a willingness to go beyond what is expected are recognized. Foreign exchange students are also honored. The students were treated to lunch at Zano’s Family Italian and Pizzeria Restaurant, given a $20 gift card to The Bookshelf and received a certificate of appreciation.

At the end of the program the Truckee High School Drama Club, under direction of Peggy Boelk and Jeff Engerbretson, performed several musical numbers from the musical “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Students honored were Justine Blide, Joana Diaz, Madison Haley, Nico Gardella, Carlos Galarza, Christian Lopez, Ramon Martinez, Kayla McQuary, Leticia Mendoza, Emily Moreno, Grant Nored-Chafkin, Liliana Pacheco, Nicole Pendleton, Holden Reed, Hannah Seppi, Dorothy Sinno and Jesus Antonio Vazquez and Ben Chandler.

Soroptimist International of Truckee-Donner is a volunteer service organization founded by professional women dedicated to creating opportunities that improve the quality of life in the community and throughout the world with an emphasis on women and girls.
