TRUCKEE, Calif. — Soroptimist International of Truckee-Donner (SITD) announced the 10th annual Soroptishop fundraiser raised $4,492.19 to help end human trafficking.

One hundred percent of the money will be sent directly to Courage House, a nonprofit home located in Nevada County for young women who are the victims of human trafficking. The event, held at the Truckee Tahoe Airport Terminal on Nov. 21, 2013 showcased 35 vendors, delicious sweet and savory appetizers, and of course, wine. All together, it was a wonderful way to kick-start the holiday shopping season, and a way to donate to a fantastic cause at the same time.

Bobbi Johansen, the founder and director of a Courage House in Northern California, was on hand accepting donations and selling her famous Courage Cupcakes. In October, Soroptimist International of Truckee-Donner honored Johansen as the 30th annual recipient of the Soroptimist Ruby Award at its annual Woman of Distinction ceremony. This distinguished award recognizes women who, through their professional and personal efforts, are making a difference in the lives of women or girls.

The $10 admission included an assortment of appetizers provided by local restaurants, caterers, and coffee shops and wine. Each of the 35 vendors donated an item for the Balloon Pop raffle and Pitts Orthodontics donated a photo booth.

The Soroptimists of Truckee-Donner would like to thank its members, the vendors, and restaurants that donated time and goods to help make the 10th Annual Soroptishop a success.
