Storytelling event to feature local outdoor enthusiasts
Boldly Went, an outdoor adventure storytelling show that travels across the country, and even Canada is returning to Truckee in partnership with Tahoe Mountain Sports for a third time. The next interactive event is being hosted at Truckee Philosophy located in downtown Truckee on Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Like many other regions that the Boldly Went traveling storytelling group tours, the Truckee show expects a wide variety of outdoor enthusiasts who are exploring the world. What sets Truckee apart from other venues is its close proximity to the Pacific Crest Trail, Lake Tahoe, and the Tahoe Rim Trail, and its high concentration of elite and expert athletes especially in snow sports, climbing, water sports, and running.
“Boldly Went shows are different from the typical adventure presentations that we all know,” explained Angel Mathis, co-creator of Boldly Went. “Boldly Went brings outdoors enthusiasts and athletes of all kinds away from their activity silos into a shared space and gives every person in attendance, regardless of their skill or expertise, an equal opportunity to share their intriguing, inspiring, and impactful adventure stories,” she said.
Event format is casual and starts with a brief review of how to tell a good outdoor adventure story. Anyone interested in telling a story will be encouraged to complete the storyteller sign up sheet throughout the evening. Of those signed up, names are drawn at random. Selected individuals are given 10 minutes to tell their adventure story.
Storytellers are judged by select audience members using criteria described in detail on the Boldly Went website. A winner is announced at the end of the evning. Stories are recorded for the opportunity to be shared later in the weekly podcast.
Everyone is welcome to attend and no one will be required or pressured to tell a story. Admission is $7 to $15 for adults and $5 for youth under age 16. The show is open to all ages.
