Sunshine letter | Kudos for sharing time, wisdom
Kudos for sharing time, wisdom
Many outstanding professionals have taken the time to share their experience, advice and expertise with Sierra College, Tahoe-Truckee students. I would like to thank the businesses and community members who have volunteered this year.
Graphic design students in Cesar Lopez’ fall class heard the inside scoop on creative jobs, industry outlook and building a portfolio from Meg Urie Rab of SmallPond, Paul Hamill from Martis Camp and Jim Kaspari from Summit Business Marketing. In addition, marketing gurus including Jess Van Pernis Weaver from JVP Communications, Liz Bowling from The Abbi Agency and Lisa Wallace from Martis Valley Communications shared practical advice as well as the joys and challenges of working in strategic communications, media relations, PR and marketing with Kurt Heisinger’s Intro to Business Class.
The Sierra College, Tahoe-Truckee Business Club gained insights on culture, administration, management and accounting by meeting senior management and touring Ace Hardware in Truckee, bigtruck brand hats, Clear Capital and the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe.
Kerry Sheedy from Truckee Bagel has provided free coffee for students every day all semester, and Carla Gifford from Starbucks has been a steadfast and enthusiastic supporter of Sierra College Insights.
Many other agencies, businesses and organizations throughout Tahoe-Truckee have hosted qualified interns and participated in the campus’ annual October job fair. Thank you.
