Tahoe-Truckee community briefs: Granite Chief to host annual Team Day event

TAHOE-TRUCKEE, Calif. — On Saturday, Oct. 8, from 2-6 p.m., Granite Chief Ski & Mountain Shop in Truckee will host its annual Team Day event. Team Day is a chance for members of the race-, freestyle- and big-mountain teams from regional resorts to come in and check out new gear, try things on, chat with reps, and decide on gear for the upcoming season.

Gear to check out includes skis, bindings, boots, poles, helmets, goggles, wax and tools, skiwear, and more. There will also be free T-shirts, ski movies and Granite Chief’s infamous candy trunk. Granite Chief is located at 11368 Donner Pass Road. Visit granitechief.com to learn more.

SELS to host national EL Education Site Seminar

Out of 152 schools that comprise the EL Education network, Sierra Expeditionary Learning School was selected to host a Site Seminar this Oct. 6-7, attracting participants from around the nation.

“Building a Community for Success” will include student presentations and teacher-led workshops investigating the structures and traditions used to facilitate a positive school-wide culture, engaged and reflective students and staff, and a supportive and participatory parent community.

Participants will dive into the SELS experience by spending time in classrooms with K-8 students. They will also join the entire school community, including staff and parents, in an all-day outdoor character-building hike. Tahoe Donner Fall Festival set for Saturday

Tahoe Donner will host its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Northwoods Clubhouse. Now in its seventh year, Fall Festival features seasonally themed activities and events. Admission is free, with options to purchase food, drinks and activities.

The expansive pumpkin patch and maze are Fall Festival highlights; in addition, festival-goers will enjoy a barbecue, seasonal beer, arts and crafts vendors, and live music and performances by local musical groups. Children’s activities include pony rides, a kids’ carnival area, bounce house, caramel apple decorating, pumpkin carving, face painting and more. Dog owners can bring their four-legged friends out for the annual doggie dip event at the Northwoods Clubhouse Pool. Dogs must be on leash when not in the pool area.
