Members of Tahoe City Martial Arts Academy and Incline Martial Arts participated in the World Tang Soo Do Association Region One Championship and Black Belt Testing over the Memorial Day weekend in San Francisco.

Participants came from California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.

Marty Cohen, a third-degree Black Belt and instructor at Tahoe City Martial Arts Academy, won the Senior Grand Championship Trophy after winning Gold Medals in weapons, forms and sparring.

This accomplishment is the first time a member of Tahoe City Martial Arts Academy has become the Region One Senior Grand Champion.

“Mr. Cohen had an amazing performance and we are extremely proud of his accomplishment,” said Patrick Cerceau, chief instructor of Tahoe City Martial Arts Academy and a Masters Candidate of the World Tang Soo Do Association.

Edgar Estrada, a first degree Black Belt from Incline Martial Arts, won the Jr. Grand Championship. His winning is a testament to the dedication of his instructors, Lulu Bernal and Luis Segoviano of Incline Martial Arts.

The North Tahoe Region was represented by 35 martial artists between Tahoe City Martial Arts Academy and Incline Martial Arts. In total, these 35 students and instructors brought home 50 medals and both the Senior and Junior Grand Championship Trophies.

This July, two instructors and four students from Tahoe City Martial Arts Academy will travel to Greensboro, N.C. for the World Championship Tournament. Kieran Fenton, Aidan Fenton, Taylor Lewis, Marty Cohen, Patrick Cerceau and Tim Schroeder will be in attendance.

This is a great opportunity to expand on recent successes at the Regional Championship and to represent the North Tahoe area with world class martial artists. You may support those students and instructors traveling to the WTSDA World Championship at http://www.gofundme.com/tahoemartialarts.

The World Tang Soo Do Association is represented in the Tahoe/Truckee area by the following studios: Tahoe City Martial Arts Academy, Tahoe City Martial Arts Academy 2, Incline Martial Arts and Truckee Tang Soo Do.
