Tahoe Truckee school district has big year

Rob Leri
Special to the Sun

I recently had the honor of joining Placer County Superintendent Gayle Garbolino-Mojica to surprise and recognize our Teacher of the Year, Mary Berelson, as the Placer County Elementary Teacher of the Year!

We also surprised Robin Redmond, who was named the Placer County Classified Employee of the Year! Both Mary and Robin are outstanding representatives of excellence for our district and our county.

Congratulations to Truckee High School’s Jazz Musicians, who took first place in their division at the 55th Annual Reno Jazz Festival. What a great way to end their festival season!

At our most recent board meeting, we recognized our 2017 retirees. As always, it was a special meeting where we celebrated our retirees and their years of service to our students, staff, parents, and the entire community.

Believe it or not, combined, these 23 individuals have 499 years of service to our district and our scholars. We are so appreciative of all they have done for all these years!

We also recognized our amazing scholar athletes from this past winter and spring for their athletic accomplishments and academic excellence.

While our regular school year is ending on June 23, we are gearing up for our summer programs: K Camp, Summer Scholars, and STEAM Academy. K Camp and Summer Scholars begin on Monday, July 10, and run through Aug. 4. STEAM Academy will be held the week of Aug. 7-11.

In closing, I would like to remind everyone of all we have to “Celebrate about what is right with the world” and Tahoe Truckee! Great things are underway at each of our schools as we provide pathways to possibilities and student success for all of our students!

I would also like to congratulate our graduating seniors and acknowledge all of their hard work, accomplishments, and community service hours they’ve given back to the community. This is an exciting time for them, and I wish each and every one of them success and happiness in the new opportunities that lie ahead.

I encourage our scholars to be responsible in their celebrations and to make this a sober end of the school year. We want all of our graduates and continuing students to be with us in the future!

Enjoy your summer and help our kids to avoid the summer slide and keep them reading!
