1. Sexual assault suspect arrested

South Lake Tahoe Police Department detectives Thursday night arrested a man suspected of perpetrating a sexual assault earlier that day.

Detectives arrested Manuel Ramos Muñoz, 30, at the police department after he allegedly confessed to kidnapping and sexually assaulting the victim.

2. Justin Timberlake announced in ACC lineup

Actor and musical artist Timberlake will join athletes and entertainers for the first time this summer at the ACC celebrity golf tournament at the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. The annual event takes place this summer on July 14 to 19 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

3. Truckee motel once used as motor court in the ‘40s to be demolished

Truckee Town Council recently unanimously OK’d the razing of the old motel at 10002 Jibboom St. It originally constructed in the mid-1940s, and was designed as a “motor court” meant to provide nightly accommodations to motoring tourists.

Now the building sits in disrepair and poses a serious threat to its surroundings.

4. 18 valedictorians highlight North Tahoe Class of 2015

For North Tahoe High School, of 70 graduates from the 2014-15 class, 18 did so this past weekend with the distinction of valedictorian, and one as salutatorian.

Of the 18 valedictorians, seven graduated summa cum laude — those who have earned A’s in all courses taken toward high school graduation. This story provided quick interviews with all seven top-achieving students.

5. Arizona cyclist suffers life-threatening injuries

A 70-year-old man from Yuma, Ariz., was flown to Renown Hospital in Reno with life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle on June 9 in South Lake Tahoe.

A 35-year-old man from Venice, Calif., was reportedly driving an SUV when it drifted to the right and struck the cyclist with the passenger-side rearview mirror, causing the 70-year-old to lose control and wreck.
