1. Lake Tahoe photographer lands cover shot of National Geographic

If you are a photographer, getting your shot on the cover of National Geographic is like a swimsuit model gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated.

It’s big. Really big. Which means Sierra Nevada College graduate and Incline Village resident Nick Cahill was pretty excited, “to, at 27 years old, achieve the best thing I might achieve in my entire career.”

2. Final $4.9 million for Tahoe City’s Fanny Bridge overhaul secured

The Tahoe Transportation District announced last week it has secured the remaining $4.9 million in funding required for the Fanny Bridge overhaul project in Tahoe City.

The project proposes a new bridge over the Truckee River and realigning Highway 89 by adding a two-lane bypass through the 64 Acres lot in National Forest System land, while redesignating a portion of the existing highway by the bridge to a street that would be open to all traffic.

3. South Tahoe police officer among 3 dead in rollover wreck; 4 children survive

A South Lake Tahoe police officer and his wife were killed in an Oct. 17 vehicle rollover east of Fallon, according to the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office.

Minden residents Mark Hounsell, 42, and his wife, Jeanne, 34, were identified by the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday.

4. Mountainside at Northstar makes plans for $1 billion expansion

Nearly $1 billion worth of new development has been proposed near Northstar California Resort to be implemented over the next three to five years.

5. Fatal wreck near Donner Summit shutting down westbound I-80 for hours

A fatal vehicle accident the afternoon of Oct. 15 forced officials to shut down westbound Interstate 80 near Donner Summit for many hours.

According to a California Highway Patrol statement, the closure on I-80 westbound, west of Castle Peak, lasted about 9 to 10 hours as crews investigated the cause of the collision that killed one person.
