Toltec wisdom guru Don Miguel Ruiz Jr. coming to Tahoe City
TAHOE CITY, Calif. — The Center for Spiritual Living in Tahoe City will host Don Miguel Ruiz Jr., author of “The Five Levels of Attachment” and “Living a Life of Awareness,” on Sunday, Jan. 25.
Ruiz Jr. will be a guest speaker during the center’s 10 a.m. service, and he will lead a workshop from noon to 2 p.m. afterward.
The Center is at 700 North Lake Blvd in Tahoe City above the Marina. Call 530-581-5117 to get advance tickets to the afternoon session at $35; tickets are $45 at the door.
Drawing on the Toltec wisdom he learned from his father and grandmother, Ruiz Jr. explores how our attachments create our reality, and how our beliefs become intimately connected to our identity, or who we think we are.
He also explains how we can let go of these attachments to allow the blossoming of our awareness in our life, regaining the freedom to love life unconditionally.
His morning talk will focus on his book, “Living a Life of Awareness,” which lets readers know there are 360 degrees of possibilities surrounding you.
To move forward in any direction is to make a choice; you say “yes” to something and “no” to all else. This is true regardless of whether or not you are aware of the infinite possibilities present in each moment.
The more attached you are to something, the more your vision is obscured and narrowed, sometimes to the point where you are convinced that there is only one way to proceed.
Your attachment to a belief cuts off your ability to see beyond that one possibility. So, as you make choices to let go of attachments that no longer work for you, your options seem to grow and expand.
But what you are really doing is increasing your perspective, as all possibilities are there all along.
FIVE LEVELS OF ATTACHMENT
In the afternoon session, Ruiz Jr. will talk about “The Five Levels of Attachment,” and will ask people, “are you using knowledge, or is knowledge using you?”
We have all made agreements about how we choose to live our lives and what we believe our personal truths are. But what we may not realize is that each one of these agreements represents an attachment, a limiting filter on who we think we are, and what the future could hold.
We call these attachments “knowledge” without ever questioning if that knowledge is necessarily true for us.
The “Five Levels of Attachment” provides a guide to understanding how we have developed our belief structures and how to go about re-evaluating or even severing these harmful attachments.
If you are looking through life and translating it as it goes along, you miss out on living it. Your knowledge has to become a tool that you will use to guide you through life but that can also be put aside, do not let knowledge translate everything you experience.
In this workshop, Ruiz Jr. defines each of the Five Levels of Attachment and invites us to reclaim our true freedom by becoming aware of our belief structures, realizing that they exist only through our agreements: The Authentic Self, Preference, Identity, Internalization and Fanaticism.
Building on the principles found in his bestselling book, The Five Levels of Attachment, don Miguel Ruiz Jr., will teach you to:
Become aware of how you confuse “who you are” with “what you know.”
Gain awareness of how your attachments have created your reality.
Stop creating your identity based on the opinions and judgments of others around you.
Let go of the fear of what you are without your beliefs.
Make new agreements that are more in line with your true authentic self.
