Truckee airport gets certificate of excellence for transparency

Staff report

The Truckee Tahoe Airport District recently received a District Transparency Certificate of Excellence from the California Special Districts Association in recognition of efforts to promote transparency and good governance.

This program, created by the Special District Leadership Foundation, recognizes special government districts for transparency and website and outreach work to keep constituents informed, according to a news release from the airport.

“The entire district staff and Board of Directors is to be commended for their contributions that empower the public with information and facilitate engagement and over-sight,” Kevin Smith, Truckee Tahoe Airport GM, said in a statement.

In order to receive the award, a district must demonstrate the completion of eight essential governance transparency requirements, including conducting ethics training for all board members, properly running open and public meetings, and filing financial transactions and compensation reports to the State Controller in a timely manner.

The district also fulfilled website and outreach requirements, according to the news re-lease.

The Special District Leadership Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization formed to promote good governance and best practices among California’s special district through certification, accreditation and other recognition programs.
