Truckee Bagel to support Project Grad

Special to the Sun

TRUCKEE, Calif. — Help support Truckee High School Project Graduation with a visit to Truckee Bagel.

Truckee Bagel, at two Truckee locations — Gateway Shopping Center and 11448 Deerfield Drive — encourages students and families to visit on Wednesday, May 7, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. The business will donate 10 percent of sales to Project Graduation. It’s a minimum school day, so plan on stocking up on bagels, grab a smoothie or bagel sandwich. It’s all to help keep students safe on graduation night.

Across the nation, more teen deaths occur during graduation weekend than at any other time of year. These deaths are preventable.

Project Graduation provides Truckee graduating seniors with a safe, sober and supervised graduation experience. The event includes an organized all-evening party for the entire class, with entertainment, dinner, and fun-filled events that keep the kids occupied and having fun, without drugs, tobacco or alcohol.

During the 23-year history of the program, not one student has been injured or killed. This is an amazing record, with a committed community effort.

There is a cost to putting on the event and several fundraisers are scheduled throughout the school year. Look for future fundraising events including the spring Senior Fashion Show on the calendar for May 18, 2014.
