Truckee Community Christmas gearing up for holiday season

Special to the Sun

Sarah Deardorff, Executive Director of Sierra Senior Services, and Julie Huck, owner of Gratitudes on Commercial Row in Truckee, at the Truckee Donner Senior Apartment dining room, during a previous Truckee Community Christmas drive.

The Truckee Community Christmas nonprofit organization is once again overseeing toy, food and coat drives that provide staples during the holiday to local families and individuals who struggle financially.

Residents who place donated items in collection barrels that are placed throughout the community between Dec. 1-18, and marked with the Truckee Community Christmas square red logo, can be assured that their contribution will directly help a local family in need.

All collected goods are distributed to grateful recipients who have undergone a thorough application and review process.

These individuals include low income families, teen moms and their babies, seniors who are homebound and other deserving area residents.
