Truckee community group holding fundraiser to gather mittens
Special to the Sun
The newly formed community group “Singles with A Purpose 60 +” are getting together on Sunday, October 23, from 4:30-8 p.m. at the Tahoe Donner Clubhouse in Truckee for a potluck, a short meeting, and fun mingling time.
The project for this winter is “Warming Hands, Warming Hearts.” Proceeds from the event are going to buying mittens and gloves for children in Tahoe.
Shocking as it may seem, there are many children who go through the cold, snowy winters in Tahoe without warm, waterproof mittens or gloves.
Singles with a Purpose will be both buying new mittens and gloves and collecting new or lightly used mittens and gloves from people in the Tahoe community. There will be boxes in several locations for people to donate new or lightly used mittens or gloves for children of all ages.
The hope is that with added donations from of the Tahoe community, every child in Tahoe who needs a pair of warm, waterproof mittens will be given one. Being able to enjoy our Tahoe winter with nice, warm hands will put a smile on many children’s faces. Shivering from cold, wet hands is no fun Together we can make this happen.
The cost for the event is either: $10 plus one or more pair of children’s new warm, waterproof mittens or gloves; or $16 without mittens or gloves.
All attending the event are asked to please bring either: an appetizer, salad, main dish, dessert, munchee, or a non-alcoholic beverage. Wine and beer is available to buy in the adjoining restaurant.
The Tahoe Donner Clubhouse is at 11509 Northwoods Blvd. in Truckee. Please R.S.V.P. to 530-587-2221.
